This Privacy Policy describes how Law Indian ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects personal information in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and other applicable Indian laws. By using our platform, you consent to the practices described herein.
1. Who We Are
Law Indian is an online lawyer discovery platform operated from New Delhi, India. We help citizens find verified legal professionals and help advocates build a digital presence. We are a data fiduciary under the DPDP Act, 2023.

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Citizens: Name and WhatsApp number when you initiate contact with a lawyer through our platform.
- Lawyers / Advocates: Full name, email address, phone number, Bar Council registration number, enrolment number, professional title, years of experience, state and city, office address, practice areas, languages spoken, professional biography, and profile photograph — submitted via the application form.
- Account holders: Email address and password (hashed) when you create a login account.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Browser type, device type, operating system, and IP address.
- Pages visited, search queries entered, and time spent on the platform.
- Referral source (how you arrived at our site).
2.3 Cookies and Tracking
We use essential cookies required for the platform to function (session management, authentication tokens). We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To display verified lawyer profiles to citizens searching for legal help.
- To verify advocate credentials before approving their profile for public listing.
- To facilitate direct contact between citizens and lawyers (WhatsApp / phone).
- To send platform-related notifications (account creation, application status updates).
- To improve our search algorithms and platform features.
- To comply with legal obligations under Indian law.
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and misuse of the platform.
We do not use your data for targeted advertising or sell your data to third parties.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell or rent personal data. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Lawyer profiles (public data): Information submitted by lawyers — name, professional title, bar council, practice areas, location, and contact details — is displayed publicly on the platform as part of the directory.
- Service providers: We use Supabase (database and authentication), hosted in Frankfurt, EU, under GDPR-compliant data processing agreements. No other significant third-party processors are used.
- Law enforcement: Where required by a court order or lawful direction from a competent Indian authority under applicable law.
5. Your Rights Under the DPDP Act, 2023
As a data principal (user), you have the following rights:
- Right to Access: Request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements). See our Data Removal page.
- Right to Grievance Redressal: Lodge a complaint with us, and if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India.
- Right to Nominate: Nominate a person to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity.
To exercise any right, email privacy@lawindian.in with your registered email address. We will respond within 30 days.
6. Data Retention
- Lawyer profile data is retained while the profile is active and for 2 years after deletion, for audit and dispute resolution purposes.
- Contact lead data (citizen name + WhatsApp) is retained for 1 year.
- Account credentials are retained until the account is deleted.
- Server logs are retained for 90 days.
7. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption for data in transit, bcrypt-hashed passwords, Row-Level Security policies on our database, and role-based access controls for administrative functions. No security measure is infallible; please report any vulnerability to security@lawindian.in.
8. Children's Privacy
Our platform is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us personal data, contact us immediately.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on the platform or by email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
